Anchor Poem by Shannon Wade

Anchor

She's weighted by their insecurities
Lack of responsibility
Failure to kiss the lips of accountability
Or ability to see the importance of consideration and understanding
She's weighted
By yesterday's choices
Choices that she has yet to engage in
Yet for some reason she Carrie's the blame
She's considered callous
For attempting to break free from her anchor snare
In hope to resume her clearly defined destiny
She's expected
To carry on unmoved
Untouched by sharp words that penetrate her soul
Empty hugs full of condition
Broken "I love you"
Hands extended
With arrogant expectations
Unrealistic demands
Failure to offer apologies
Let alone genuine thank you
A tide a relief arrives and its forcefully submerges the anchor attempting to drown her spirit
Allowing her to finally exhale
