Anchors And Forgotten Promises Poem by Curry Bascue

Anchors And Forgotten Promises

Beyond the road with you is a forgotten promise to keep.
This will always echo in my head,
Our own forgotten promise,
The promise that you abandoned leaving me to carry the burden.
We always found a way to make the best of the situations we encountered,
Somewhere in the process you abandoned yourself.
That same person that I thought would care,
Abandoned her own self.
We used to walk side by side,
But now we go on back to back.
Relieving yourself of the burden you once carried with me.
You walked peacefully through the forest behind and forgot about me.
I yell and scream your name every night,
You hear my pleas and yet ignore me.
I try to throw my burdens away from me,
Yet these aren’t just carried burdens anymore.
They are anchors around my ankles.
I must forget you,
These burdens you ignore now and I carry.
Nights and nights I wondered with the anchors on my body,
But I finally found the shore we we’re once hoping to reach.
I yell out my agony to the sky and try to subdue tears.
I’ve spend days on this beach watching as the anchors decay and rust on my body.
I have nothing left
You left me empty for so long.
I don’t remember you anymore.
One last time, I close my eyes.
Slowly I whisper
“I forgive you”
I finally burst out in pain screaming
“I FORGIVE YOU! ”
The anchors fall off my body and disappear into darkness.
Now forever my body will remain on this beach.
I’m so tired,
Light fades from my eyes.
I gave you everything I had,
But I will fade away smiling anyway.
