All the loneliness inside
And all the disappointments and defeats
And all the rejection and failure and fear
And all the sense of my own nothingness and failure
And all the negative thought about everything
And all the sense that all is lost
And going from bad to worse and worse
And all of this ‘no' which I have within me now
Are resisted in me by something I do not understand
A voice and power for going on
Without knowing exactly how or why
And here I am
Going on and on again
And not really understanding
How I manage
Despite all this
To force myself to maintain
A slim hope that in writing these words
I am still doing something.
