And Annie Was Her Name Poem by Sebastian Mari

And Annie Was Her Name

When first I asked her name
I didn’t know the voice behind it
But I loved her all the same.
When first I asked to hold her book
I was sure not to get the chance
But I got a second look.
No one in this world can say
She was right for me
I was only young
And she was seventeen.
I was just as shy
So no one was to blame.
I didn’t expect an answer
When first I asked her name.

When first I spoke to her
I didn’t know the right words to say
But the wrong words didn’t give away
When first I spoke to her.
I asked to meet her soon
I was sure not to get the chance
But that night we spoke under the moon.
No one in this world can ask
To where we both had played
I would smile to them and say
That I knew her just for one day.
Yet I didn’t see her again
Maybe I only new her name
But still that memory will remain
‘cause I loved her all the same.
