And Laughed At The End Of Time Poem by Shalom Freedman

And Laughed At The End Of Time

I didn't wait for death to come to me
I wrote my poems against the night
I stood where the light is
And laughed at the end of time -

I knew I had to make joy and love and wonder
My allies
And I went on seeking beauty and truth
And doing kindness and goodness-

I did not abandon anyone
But inside me spoke to them
Even when the ground became their home

I fought on
I fight on -

Let them say of me one day
If they say anything
Which I of course doubt
‘He went through it all with the guts and gusto of a very happy man
