And Still Poem by Raymond Farrell

And Still

And still
For all humanity's advancements
In science and technology
The ever increasing
Knowledge of life
We remain
Little more than
Sophisticated onion peelers
Constantly weeping when having
Peeled away one layer
We find another layer
More complex
Causing theories to again be revised
To explain
The ever- increasing complexity
But sadly
All the wine
Has been drunk
All the gods praised
And the very notion
Of a Being
Higher than their feeble selves
Scoffed at and rejected
But now
When the Cell
In all its complexity
Lies before us
In its overwhelming beauty
The fabric of theories
Begins to fray
Knees begin to smite one against the other
And all know
In their heart of hearts
They have been weighed in the balances
And found wanting.
