Anguish Poem by Birgitta Abimbola Heikka

Anguish

I heard a cry nearby
like the moaning of an animal
in pain
With immense agony was it filled
this cry that woke me up from a deep sleep.
In vain, I searched to locate the animal
and opened my mouth to call out to the creature, distressed
but found that the moaning was emanating from my throat.
