Another Dull Couple Poem by Aimanu B. Ali

Another Dull Couple

Everyone loves
a poem of love.
I too want
to write one.
How should I start?
That there were
a boy and a girl
or a man and a woman,
of matured true love,
not boyish or girlish?
That she had beautiful eyes
like the blue of the sky,
but the sky these days
all dusty and smoky.
And he with six pack,
now Jennifer my dear
please what in god's name
this six pack is,
like the soaps that come
in pack of three
the buy two get one free.
Where did I leave it?
Yes they were madly in love
the door bell rings,
sweet Jennie turn off the TV
answer the door.
Oh how are you dear Mina,
no I am not busy
only trying to write
a poem of love
of our love
his and mine
may be for posterity
but I can think only
of soaps, groceries and homework
or of office on monday.
The sky is no more blue
the green in my garden
all autumnal yellow.
Is the winter creeping in
like a person with a cold heart
lacking in warmth
and with no affection?
Au revoir dear Mina
I will go and write
my poem of love now.
We are not
another dull couple
like our friends next door.
