Another Saturday Afternoon Poem by David Thomas

Another Saturday Afternoon

Rating: 2.7

Along this road we go
these beautiful clouds and sky
the weather is grand
and the day is perfect,
dresses will be ours soon!
oh i can see it now,
yours will be so pretty!
what was that?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the car hit
one dead and gone
the hand of death reaches out again,
the hand of life clenched tightly
surrounding the other one
better late than never...
if only fate could be so much sweeter,
so on time and purposeful...
so comfortable.
but life like this,
it rarely ever is
so remember when you drink and drive,
another saturday afternoon
or another night at the bar,
or even just one...
you are not the only one
who's life will matter this night,
you are not the only one
to step out of their house tonight
so drive safe, drive sober,
don't help death grab another life.
it's not hard once you put your mind to it,
all you gotta do is
try.
For Sweeney.
