Anthem Of The World Poem by Toh Zhongyan

Anthem Of The World

Rating: 5.0

Born into a beautiful place
In a very intriguing way
We were supposed to fascinate
At nature's marvellous taste

Unfortunately, that wasn't the case
We shifted to a malicious gaze
Taking advantage of the soil we own
Proudly proclaiming it: the world "I" own.

Why have we desecrated our earth?
With our uncompromising turf
The home which was given to us
Have been disintegrated to dust

We have fought over countless eras
Fraught with mankind's ruthless scars
The world, which is ours to keep
That thought, never faded so deep

Countless times we cried for peace
Ironically, through mayhem and lease
Our hope, to reunify us
Was but only a verbal barf

Awaken, people of the world
Can't you hear the cry for help?
The victims of our ruthless purge
Their memories, composed into dirge

So stop slaughtering the innocent
Those people void of freedom
We work together, good and bad
To forge a different world from that

An insightful piece of poetry depicting the interrelatedness of human reality with a call for universal brotherhood of man, well articulated and nicely penned in good rhyme scheme with conviction. A lovely poem indeed. Thanks for sharing Toh. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
