Apologize - Poem by Kenna Cook

How do I tell you I’m sorry-
With a gesture, a look, a touch?
How is it I never realized
I hurt you so very much?

I do not ask for forgiveness
A comfort I’ll never deserve.
I merely want to let you know,
But I can not find the nerve.

To finally confront you, face to face,
To look you in the eye,
To face your anger, your untrusting ness-
Too terrified to try.

You called me horrible names, it hurt me so bad
I cried and I fled;
Hurt and scared, lashing out,
Just to see if you bled.

Four months and forever passed
To bring us to this day,
When I present theses simple words
I thought I’d never say.

The time has come; It’s long passed due,
To put aside my fear;
Would this confession torture you?
Or have you longed to hear?

To hear those two forbidden words,
To crush all the pain,
To understand my dearest wish;
I love you and wish you could trust me again.

The lies have hurt us remarkably,
Though are mistakes have made us wise;
I don’t know why we chose to hurt each other so badly,
And for my screw ups I apologies.

I love you and I’m sorry! ! !
