Appearances Can Be Deceiving Poem by Skylark Woodrow

Appearances Can Be Deceiving

When you see me all you see is something small,
Weak,
Breakable.
But didn't anyone ever tell you that appearances can be deceiving;
And that the only thing that matters is what's on the inside?

I'm all fire and brimstone,
Lightening resides within my eyes,
And thunder in my voice.
Storms lie beneath my skin.
I was made to persevere through the hardships, suffering, and pain.
I was made to bend but not break when tribulations came.
I was made to rise beyond my circumstances and conquer whatever this life brought me.

It's not my fault that I'm trapped within this skin,
And twined around these bones;
I was not able to choose which body would be my home.
Look beyond the surface,
Past this mortal flesh;
See the spirit within me.
