Arab Spring Poem by David Chalk

Arab Spring

In Egypt and Libya
And Syria and Bahrain
The cry goes up for freedom
And Freedom once again

We support these cries for freedom
In the Kingdoms from which they come
Yet the leaders that oppress them
Were sold by us their guns

Indeed for years we supported those
Who have much evil done
As profits flowed into our pockets
And the Dictators who those countries run

And now the pressure is too much
For those who suffer evil’s touch
They come to protest and to fight
Against the ones who caused their plight

And as the battle carries on
We want to see these leaders gone
The leaders with their bloody hands
Who rule the oil soaked lands

And when the fighting is over
And the leaders have been changed
Will persecution be ended?
Will justice have been gained?

Or, as many times before
Will revolution circle once again
With exploitation under law
As our profits we retain
