Around Town Poem by Claire Pinney

Around Town

I wandered 'round this city's busy streets,
passed building sites and jumbled districts known,
but changing all the time, some way from home,
the urban scene that endlessly repeats.
The towers hemmed by rugged tufts of grass,
below the wispy voile of downtown clouds,
the wary, standoff glances of the crowds,
a silent wall of scuffed up, guarded hearts.
Beyond the pavements crossing through the town,
I traced the towpath and headed homeward,
no sense from screen or from screaming billboard
of how to reconcile my lost and found.
Then chancing to look up with tired eyes,
above I saw the bluest blue of skies.
