As An Eagle Poem by Robert Edgar Burns

As An Eagle

His talons piercing into the tree.
Eyes locked and focused, on prey hopping free.
Wings stretched unfurled to catch a rise,
And majestically sails floating toward the sky.

He circles around and picks his spot.
He must shoot straight if the prey be caught.
Like a lightning bolt flashing through the air,
His eyes are zeroed on a bobbing hare.

But way too late did the rabbit react,
For he just became that eagle’s snack.
When he is finished, there is the nest,
Where his tiny chicks will eat the rest.

Inside we are like an eagle wild.
We start as chicks just like a child.
And spreading wings we shall leave our nest,
To capture kingdoms and destroy the rest.

In the struggle of life, I am that bunny.
Flesh torn in two when life seemed sunny.
You are the eagle with it’s shrill war call.
I lived not in your heart at all.
