As Far As Rules Go Poem by derrick foster

As Far As Rules Go

You’re only as good as your last move
But I don’t play chess
I never learned
Things fall into place naturally
So I go with the flow
Consistently moving to the flow
Another pawn lost. Your move
Protect the queen no matter the cost
Watch that knight
Know your strategy
Before making your next move
Oh. I know this game
The trouble is I play by a different rule
I suppose it’s why I get into situations
I can’t handle. Your move or
Do you prefer trivial matters.
That’s my pursuit.
Seriously. Quit switching games
Well. That’s the plan
Keep up. Try to guess the next game.
Guess the right… word
Un-scrabble the right clue
The way you move boggles the mind
Come on try and stop me
Does the changing rules leave you perplexed
Don’t worry your turns coming around
Pick a tile
By then another game will have ended
What? You can’t play mahjong (neither can I)
Oh well. Stick around for hopscotch
Bored with the board
Let’s try an outdoor favorite
Tag you’re it. Catch me if you can.
Ring around the rosy.
No one said “Simon says”.
Now’s the time for hide n seek
You start. I’ll find… another game
To flip the script; change the pace
It’ll make things more interesting
As far as rules go, anything goes
In this ever changing game of life.
Sorry perhaps it’s operation I’m playing
Come one come all to the schoolyard
We’ve games aplenty
Now. Lets play. It’s your move.
