As He Lay There Dead Poem by norman hale

As He Lay There Dead

As he lay there dead
Passed right on, by some
Most wouldn't give him the time of day
While others snickered at him, calling him bum

As he lay there dead
His soul was moving on to a better place
It wouldn't be very long now
Until he seen St. Peters face

As he lay there dead
Some thought of him as a waste of life
But, they didn't know him back when
He had a steady job, two kids and a wife

As he lay there dead
No one even shead a single tear
The best they could do
Was talk about how they smelled beer

As he lay there dead
Somewhere his family still mourns
And for years to come
Their hearts will be torn

As he lay there dead
The Angels both sang and cried
For soon he'd be in Heaven
Walking along Jesus side
