As I Drown Myself To Sleep Poem by Mohammad Younus

As I Drown Myself To Sleep

As I drown myself to sleep,
I find a path to peaceful rest.
I shovel out the dirt of thoughts,
Emptying my mind.
With closed eyes, I sink
Into dreamless sleep,
And silently pray
Without chanting mantras or hymns.
There is God who knows
The language of silence,
Where words don't matter.
I find relief from the pain
Of rote prayers,
Now aware within my sleep.
I cherish being buried deep
In dreamless sleep.
