As I Lay To Die Poem by Neo Patricia Monamodi

As I Lay To Die

Today as I lay
Thinking this is my last day
As my family watches my body decay
I have no regrets, no pain
Light and darkness all the same
Laughter and cries history in just a moment.

Today as I lay to die,
I lay all my dreams to rest;
Places I wanted to go to
The man I wanted to marry
The house I wanted to stay in by the beach,
The beauty of the pyramids in Egypt,
Sky diving and bungee jumping.
Now all just a mind thing.

All dreams gone
Yet my soul lives on
I shall see no color nor hear any sound
Smell not the magnificence of my lover’s scent
Hear not the beauty of the rain
See not the wonder of the sunset
Ride never again on horses
Oh! The sound of the ocean…

Never shall I gaze into my lover’s brown eyes
Or experience the warmth of passion
Nor see smiles on his face
Never shall I smell the roses he buys me
Nor feel his strong yet gentle arms around me
Nor heart the sound of his heart beat
Nor brush his eye brows like I like to
Never shall he hear my voice…

Today as I lay to die
Thinking this is my last day
As my family watches my body decay
With no regrets, and no pain,
I realise I have one feeling for love
That I never compromised it
That I do not know this man but I love him
With all the depth my heart can reach.

Yet today as I lay
Thinking this is my last day
As my family watches my body decay
With no regrets, and no pain
Light and darkness being all the same
I realise life is not just a game
It’s a path to spend eternity with God
Fear and trembling should define your life.
