As The Bottle Slowly Ends Poem by Kate McLaughlin

As The Bottle Slowly Ends

Rating: 5.0

As the bottle slowly empties
And another finds its place
We all drink the night away
Are heads slowly float into space

Are bodies are numbing
And are heads serve no use
With more shots of whiskey
Our words turn into abuse

Once it was all fun
But now it’s all a game
To see who can drink the most
We’ll never be the same

Now we change from whiskey
To something perfectly clear
A little more vodka
Looks like no one is here

We all know what happens
And yet we still drink
We’re becoming crazy
And can no longer think

As we slowly get sick
On a drink, we want more
To beat the others
Is an on going chore

We run to the bathroom
When we can’t take anymore
We all start to pass out
And tardily fall to the floor

We are passing out
Left and right we all see
That another drink
And the person we were we will no longer be

Kate, this is a very powerful write, and written from your heart. You took me back to days gone by, the wasteful wanton years of life I thought I used to love. Bob
