As We Once Were Poem by Kerri White

As We Once Were

Rating: 3.0

Your hand isn't enveloping me
as it once did.
Your mind doesn't read me now
as it always has before.

I remember those cold nights.
You'd hold me until I was warm
and as the sun came up, you'd let go,
simply to watch me smile at your presence.

Beautiful words perched upon your lips,
meant to be said to me-
From a heart of love to an accepting soul...
You were so irresistible.

Your hands...amazing
as they crept down the length of my body.
I shivered in awe as you searched me,
as though looking for a crevice never before claimed.

Our dancing romance was purely innocent-
Just two fools playing for each other's hearts.
A separation would have meant the world stopped,
and 'love' was spoken in every sentence.

I now stand on this empty beach
with water rushing to my ankles.
I sink into the sand with no reason to remain ashore,
for the boat that departed has stolen my calling.
