Ash Wednesday,2020 Poem by Dr John Celes

Ash Wednesday,2020

Oh, let the ashen cross on forehead drawn
By priestly hand, from old burnt palms remind
My corpus, mind and heart are earthen born
And transient must return to dust, unwind.

Oh, let me have my birth again from dust
That's sanctified and freed from sins galore;
And let the phoenix risen free from lust
Of earth, become divine for long, once more.

Oh, let new hope from heaven's light afill
My heart, enspirited by Holy Ghost;
And let me climb Christ-like, the Holy Hill,
Receiving forgiveness of sins, and Host.

Oh, let my eyes perceive the pristine things
That stayed elusive all along in life;
And sip the gall that human crosses brings,
When comes my trials, tribulations, strife.

Oh, let my weary frame restart a lease
Anew, afresh without a blotch on soul,
And walk behind my Savior till I cease,
Adhering His tenets and newer goal.

Oh, let me spend the Lenten time again
In fasting, prayers, charity each day;
And reconcile with God, add grace like rain,
And trudge my earthly terrain in His way.

Oh, let remorse, repentance fill my heart
To lead a life for good until I pass,
And leave the load of sins to God, I cart,
And Jesus Christ Lord in the Holy Mass.

Oh, let me follow Christ's steps on His way
Of cross this time, and help Him walk with ease,
Without my share of sins, O come what may,
Before I earn Heaven's glory and peace.

Oh, let my enriched life be filled with love
That came from God without my asking it;
By emulating Holy God above,
And make my body, mind, heart, soul more fit.

Dedicated to all Christians who begin their Lenten season again this year
