At Last The Dark Lessened Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

At Last The Dark Lessened

At last the dark lessened; my eyes figured.

Six were the Figures Black around my bed.

Tall and over me as cat on mouse.

And round my bed, the bed the Figures Black

They with measured steps went round.

Each a candle-light bore with measured step.

And then their drear and weird dirges sang

Chorus of horror-drear and sickly words!

Till in the background came a Savior Light

And as fast as they had appeared, disappeared the Figures Black.

And I was left comforted by the Savior Light.
