At Least I've Set You Free Poem by cebolenkosi kubheka

At Least I've Set You Free

As you cry yourself to sleep
Tonight,
At least finally you know
the truth
As you rest your head
up on your pillow
Tonight,
At least now you can dream
better dreams
As you lay down bitter and broken
Tonight,
At least I've set you free

As you curse me
Tonight,
As you cry desperately to God
pleading with him
to punish me,
As you lock yourself inside your room
Tonight,
As I get absorbed by guilt.
At least finally I can rest easy
Knowing that finally you will be happy,
I was never yours, neither you were mine.
Practice, pretence made it seem legit.
But, my conscience won't let me lie tonight,
I had to release you
I couldn't be held responsible
for ruining your future
At least I've Set You Free
