At The Dawn Poem by Joyce Hemsley

At The Dawn

She travelled far, through lanes and lonely hillsides
Through forest paths and stormy windy shores,
She searched and searched for some secluded byway
Where she could rest, and travel on no more.

Then came the darkness, shadows ever creeping
And hailstones swept across the barren moor.
She held on tight - but could not stop her weeping
And at the dawn, her heartbeat was no more.
