At The Movie Poem by Randy McClave

At The Movie

She went to see the movie, "The Little Mermaid"
With her daughter who is in the third grade,
They both excitedly took their seat
As they sat and waited for that magical treat.
The mother then told her daughter all about mermaids
And all about their wonderful cascades,
She then told her daughter about all the talking fishes
And then about Ursula one of the many underwater sea witches.
She then told her daughter about the Queen and King Triton
Her daughter she wanted to enlighten,
Then suddenly all of the lights in the theater went dark
The movie was finally beginning to start.
Then after a few minutes Ariel the mermaid was on the screen
The mother then began to scream,
The mother then shouted this movie isn't factual or right
Everyone knows that Ariel the Mermaid is white.
She screamed, "they got the movie all wrong"
She then screamed a white mermaid should be singing the song,
Everyone shushed her to please sit down and to be quiet
As she was starting a one woman riot.
The movie and the music just kept on playing
Lies and the hypocrisy's she screamed the movie was portraying
And she kept on shouting and continuing her complaining
All about the injustices and lies she was maintaining.
Ariel the mermaid is white the mother screamed and again said
That's her color in the book from which to my daughter I had read,
Then from the movie goers their boos and shhh's she took great offense
"We wanna watch and enjoy the movie"! screamed the audience.
Then the mother again in anger just hollered back
Everyone knows that Mermaids are not at all ever black,
Then the truth unto her from the audience they then did reveal
When they all shouted at her, "Mermaids are not at all real".
