At The Trail's Bend Poem by Julia Miller

At The Trail's Bend

They say the journeys end in lovers meeting,
Well I'm not ready for mine to end.
So lover when we meet at this trail's bend,
Can you promise to be patient with my pain?
Because lover, this has been a difficult road,
As I'm sure yours has been as well.
Few people have I let travel with me,
Few people have I let help when I fell.
But darling do not think it was lonely,
Do not think these the words of a martyr.
I write in hopes you'll understand,
This tricky road has made me stronger.
So lover when we meet at this path's bend,
Understand that strength breeds pride,
Tears may fall down to the earth,
Of knowing you'll always be by my side.
Of knowing this journey has ended,
But promise me another will begin,
Take my hand and walk beside me,
Away from this roadway's bend.
Do not expect me to follow,
Back to where you came,
And do not let me lead you,
Back through my trampled way,
Instead, lover, walk with me,
On a path we haven't known.
Let's end one journey with another,
A journey we can call our own.
