Aurora Borealis Poem by Dibakar Purkayastha

Aurora Borealis

I was destined to trudge to north pole
So, I blared the dulcet trumpet, and
I marshalled my resources to move
towards north, and hoist my flag there
Because, I never saw aurora borealis.

I encompassed my signate path
moved with all zest and zeal
All my followers moved with their will
moved like soldiers of king Hannibal
Dauntless with all bravado, ready to
crossover all such barriers
We get on our desired path, because
I never saw aurora borealis.

I traversed through corkscrew road
with its labyrinth passages
amorphous hill and zigzag rivers
Passed through many meadows
and Moore over the years, because
I never saw aurora borealis.

Ocean of trouble tossed without rest
My mind became divided, and
thoughts now ran this way or that
I pondered various means, and
turned to them all towards north
The North pole, because
I never saw aurora borealis.

A flickering light on the water
thrown back by the sun, or the
shape of the radiant moon
falling on all things around and
all night and day we moved on
Passed under the shades of many trees
cleaving the green woods
reflected beaneth us in still water
But I am to march forward to north
Because, I never saw aurora borealis.

When the fiery sun had climbed up
midway in the arch of the sky
On the distance there I saw a citadel
and behind its wall some scattered
roofs of homestead, the signboard
arrowed the word ' Norway' and
I got to know that immediately
I can see now the aurora borealis.
