Autobiography Of Nicholas Nye Poem by Dwitrisha Saha

Autobiography Of Nicholas Nye

Rating: 5.0

Perhaps it seems to you that I'm sad
when you find me the only
in an surrounding so lonely
munching on thistles purple and spiked.

My companion during day is only my shadow
That follows me as I walk around the meadow.
It stays always with me as if it was my fellow.

I'm old, lame, bony and grey
drowsing in the meadow of hay
in the blazing heat of the day
under the sun rays
I stand in my surrounding of thistle, darnel and dock and a bush in a corner of may.

My journey of life is a testimony
proving me to be a donkey
whose age is more than twenty.

At dawn I bray, that lacks of gaiety
And a little while later I see the sky shiny
and I know that a new day has begun finally.

But though ownerless worn and widowed am I
Knobble- kneed and grey
I find a boy perhaps of nine sprawling on the orchard
wall and seeing me from my bush in a corner of may.
Perhaps understanding my life and sympathizing with me
for my life, always approaching in a functional way.

He would lie there for many long hours
while some words would pass through the eyes of ours,
through the eyes of his and mine
over the grass and beneath the dark blue sky.

Then dusk would arrive in the apple boughs
And he would return home
Leaving me alone in the meadows.
My companion now not even my own shadow

The glow worms would spread their wonderful lights
And everything remained serene and proceeded smoothly
Then the birds would squat to rest warmly
And you would find brooding ghostly
me Nicholas Nye, the aged donkey.
