Autumn Lover Poem by Joe Shaw

Autumn Lover

The branches creep over me, their twigs stroking my hair,
The autumn leaves are beneath my feet, my face feels the icy air.
I pull out my gloves, put them on to heat my cold hands,
But instead you grab them and in front of me you stand.

I look up to see the sky, the clouds dull and grey,
The grass has been painted by a frost, there's the soft smell of decay.
I wrap my scarf around myself, so the bitterness can't grab my neck,
But instead you stop me, and then my red cheeks you peck.

My bare feet walk over the hard soil, i wipe the tears the wind made me cry,
The last of the summer scenery can be seen, slowly starting to die.
I find my shoes next to the iced up lake, i put them on before i get a chill,
But instead you carry me, and to your touch i have no will.
