Can We Deny The Heart's Feelings? - Poem by Joe Shaw

Can we deny the heart's feelings?
Can we help who in love we fall?
Love the most beautiful sensation,
Can leave the sting of how things shouldn't be.

You spend most of your time with him,
A loving friendship over the years has bloomed,
Yet you yearn for something more,
But could that ruin it all?

You're heart is warmed with the feelings of his love,
You imagine a happy wonderous life with him,
But you're conflicted with the thought of is it right?
Should it fail could a greater connection be destroyed.

No, is your answer and you leave your feelings alone,
As a friendship is a bigger thing to lose,
But inside you're still hurting as you love him,
Even though you hate to admit it.

So you stand there with your hearts feelings locked away,
Trying to burst out and take you over,
And you hurt inside when he playfully holds your hand,
And when he combs his fingers through your hair.

Poet's Notes about The Poem

For inspiration as such is when you may have feelings for a friend but you think it might not be the right thing because if it fails it could ruin the friendship
