I stayed away
not because
courage I lacked-
the air
from the mass
was starting
to suffocate
a rebellion
was soon
to be staged
I had no agenda
in a remote corner
I lived in a cottage
hugged by Mother Nature
greeted at every dawn
by the full-throated melodies
of many a merry song-bird
away I stayed
yet in undying faith
my freedom
to surrender not
none should regard me
by any measure
a solitary coward
