Awed… Poem by Betty Jo Hilger

Awed…

Rating: 5.0

Have you ever watched the wonder of a child
When seeing sunlight breaking through the clouds
When feeling snowflakes land upon a fingertip
Or walking hand in hand without a sound…

Have your ever marveled at the awed surprise
Blossoming like heaven in his eyes
Upon the miracle he holds within his hand
A Robin’s egg worth more than any prize…

Have you ever thought about the miracle of sand
Of how each tiny grain is made unique
Each bearing its’ own weight
Each bearing its’ own shape
Each bearing its’ own place beneath the sea…

Or likened children’s smiles to stars hung in the sky
Reflecting innocence within naïve delight
Created specially, each crafted with such care
Yet, you know each one, and hold each flicker dear…

Have you ever contemplated how they dream
On where they find the purity of muse
Desiring to conceive just half the clarity
That each of our sweet children can produce…

The answer lies transparent in the reason
When Jesus gave his clear analogy
His words communicate the simple truth
When saying: “Let the children come to me…”
