Back In Rotorua Poem by Francis Duggan

Back In Rotorua

The memories of what was with him remain
And in fancy he is in the past again
By the thermal springs watching the steam bubbles rise
The depths of his love of home only he can realize.

Since he was last in Rotorua five years have ticked on by
On looking back time it does seem to fly
The smell of the sulphur in the morning air
His thoughts are of home though he lives far from there.

Old Rotorua to his heart is ever near
And in fancy the song of the chaffinch he hear
Where the hot springs and mudpools bubble night and day
In the old thermal Town in the south far away.

One in his late twenties his best days not gone
The wanderlust in him and he travels on
The yearning for new places does live in his kind
But where wanderlust is nostalgia too you will find.

The hot springs and mud pools bubble in wind and rain
And in fancy he's back in Rotorua again
When he visualize distance does disappear
And the distinctive song of the chaffinch he hear.
