Back In The Day. Poem by Dietra Reid

Back In The Day.

Rating: 5.0

Back in the day, how did you do it Grandma?
Back in the day Grandma, how could you be so very
strong?
How could you look down at your own mother dying,
while my mother was so deep inside your womb?
How did you raise my mom all by yourself working in
another woman's house?
How did you take responsibility for your choices and
their outcomes not blaming anyone else?
I wish I could've been a baby swaddled in a blanket on
your back, back in the day.
How did you not put black men down,
when so many others did?
How did you show by actions, not words what a Christian
woman does?
How did you show your granddaughter the power of
forgiveness for the forgiver?
Back in the day Grandma how were you born having
abundance, suffer severe loses, and work very hard to
have life's needs and some of its wants?
Back in the day how did you learn not to take yourself or
life to seriously?
Back in the day you left an inspiring example with lots of
love, back in the day but for the future ones.

A beautiful tribute to a wonderful granny ceremoniously rich in tone. A very compassionate piece of poetry. Thanks for sharing and do remain enriched.
