Bad Parents Poem by Randy McClave

Bad Parents

I am a single parent of a child
Unto who I never ignored or went wild,
When I wasn't working it was always him and me
He was my life and my destiny.
Him and I were always a team
He and I shared the same adventures and dream,
Him and I had and many exciting journeys together
Which neither one of us wanted to ever sever.
While he was a teen I made him a vow
What I would and wouldn't do or ever allow,
Number one promise was I wouldn't date
That was my promised fate.
My son was growing to being a man
I steered him the best that I could and can,
Number one in his memories I immersed
A parent's child must always come first.
While he was living with me I never dated
Plans and adventures with my child was first always slated,
Whenever he needed me emotionally I was there
He was then and is now my number one care.
Friday night instead of me going to a club or a bar
My son and I instead went for drives in my car,
Instead of me looking about to pick up women on a Saturday night
We instead picked up his friends for movies and games delight.
Having a child is knowing how easy it is to love
They are angels truly sent by God above,
I was never and could never be a dead beat dad
Which made my soul and my son so very happy and glad.
Sadly, some mothers are like a deadbeat father
Who sees their children as a weight and a bother,
And whenever I see them and their children they ignore
That makes me hate bad parents even that much more.
