Barking Poem by Raluca Neagu

Barking

I watch the world through a dirty window
distinguishing only trails
the dark geometric landscape continues in the apartment
it amplifies if I shut my eyes
and more if I stay silent

next door
there are things happening
I'm guessing a light in the used pajama alike block
there are people there who hide
without doubt
they are hiding from the administrator, from ropes, from the children's scream, from hunger, from the bad wine, from the bugs which they sleep with, from the hopes they can't buy, from the town's criminals on which the night bows to

next door
there are things happening
says the fish eyes neighbor
while he is watching me
with his barking heart

the town is teaching me to pull my knees to my mouth

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem when I first moved to a big city and that was the feeling that I got about my new rented 'home' and my new rented life.
