Bastions Defend Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

Bastions Defend

When these trees here walk then it be deep night
Bastions defend as antique knights
Of civilization
Structures throb-vibrate
And fly from change to change:
I
I too have come here lone
And
In the eerie lights
Wavering
Seek the company of ghosts
And shades and shrouds
And in the distant heights
Of air
Notes of music varied hear
And
Time, Time-Motion tick,
Tick, tick, tick
Till deeper night when the trees walk
Here
Shunning
Shunning sights in old Valletta!
