Bats! Poem by mary buckley

Bats!

Velvet upside-down thing
Feather-light fangling
Cradled in my hand

Figure-hugging brown thing
Silken-webbed batwing
Soft against my hand

Wizen-faced wide smile
Ultrasonic lifestyle
Hard to understand

Sub-sonic utterings
Other-wordly mutterings
Shiver through my hand

Pipistrelle awakening
Senses re-locating
Mapping out my hand

Creature disentangling
Winged fingers angling
Finds a place to hang

Acrobatic slight thing
Curious night thing
So unfairly damned
flies away....
`bats' I'd say!

Enjoyed reading. Thanks. I love bats too. Often walk nights; with them sky-silhouetting above.
