Battered Wife Poem by Dr Puneet Aggarwal

Battered Wife

Pretty face

Beaten blue and black,

Sunken eyes

Dwelling with pain.

She conceals it

Under thick tan;

Constant cry

Reveals the last night veil.

Drunk man, has she wed

Uses her; as a boxing pad.

She works all day long

Fearing, how night will fall.

Layers of misery

Lie untold

Leaving him;

Is not a choice anymore.

Yet! Another day

She walks down the same lane

Exchanging hellos

I watch it all

Unable to ask,

Drowned with shame.
