କବି ହ, କବି ହ,
କବିଟେ ହ ବଲି
ହର୍ମିଶା କହୁଥିଲା
ମକେ ମୋର ବୁଆ,
ଜାନିଥିଲା, ସଭକରନୁ
ବଡ, କବି ଆଏ,
ହେତାରଠାନୁ ବଡ
ନେଇଁ ନ ଆରୁ କିହେ
କେହେନସିଠାନେ।
କବି ଏକଲା
ପାରସି ଦେଖି ସତ୍,
ରହେବାରଟା ରହେସି
ଭାବେ ଆରୁ ଆବରିନେସି
ସବୁ ଆକାଶ ସବୁ ସମୁଦର
ଆରୁ ସବୁ ପୁରଥିର ସଭକେ
ଏକା ଅଂଘାକେ।
କେନ ଶତ୍ରୁ
ଆରୁ ନେଇଁ ନ କାହିଁ,
ହେମାନେ ସବୁ ହେମାନକର
ଶତ୍ରୁ ହେଇକରି ମରୁଛନ୍,
ଜୀବନର ଭାବକେ ରସକେ
ଜାନି ନେଇଁ ପାରବାର ।
କବିଟେ ନେଇଁ ହେଲାତକ୍
କିଟକିଟ ଅଁଧାରେ
ଘୁରବାରକେ ପଡୁଥିସି,
ଆରୁ ମୋର ବୁଆ କହୁଥିଲା
ଚାହେଁନା ନେଇଁ
ହେନ୍ତା ବେମତଲବ ଘୁରବାରଟା।
English rendering;
Be a poet, be a poet,
Be a poet, always
My father was telling me.
My father knew
The poet is superior
To all and no other one
Is greater than the poet.
The poet alone can
See the truth.
The poet stays always
In love and can able to
See the truth and
Can embrace the whole sky
And oceans and all.
No enemy is there
Anywhere, and
They are dying
In the enmity themselves.
They know not
The love and
The cream of life.
Until and unless
One is a poet, he has to
Wander in darkness,
And my father was telling
He wants no such
Useless wandering.
