Be Remembered Poem by Blessing Kalamatila

Be Remembered

I want to be remembered,
not only for the eloquence I took on stage
but for my poetry that was there to mould a clear picture;
not only for my audience to snap
but to capture Hope even for the blind;
so they too would decrypt the message hiding in plain
sight.

That even though I felt subordinate in their
ranks,
I was never one to mistake Hype for bullets
and passion for blanks;
you see my aim was never to please the crowd.
I want to be remembered,
not for the slam tittles
or the perfect recital
but as the author of promise.

That I too wrote from the heart;
Yes! my message was never in vain.
That from this art,
I shared with you my life.
Remember me not for the courage I took on stage
but because my amplified echo from the mic
was the change someone needed.

That even though my pain kept me afloat
amidst the waves of doubt
think of the pen as my lifeline
and because of our abysmal unification
remember the depth;
not the shallow punchlines.
