Before Poem by Katniss Everdeen

Before

I'm sat in my room
And cold to the core
Thinking about what you said
When we were happy. Before.

I remember what I said
How I promised not to cry
But the tears are a small comfort
Like a mother's lullaby

Why wasn't I good enough?
Why would you let me go?
There are so many questions in my head
I just have to know.

I'm the shoulder for my friends
The rock on which they lean
But why are none of my friends here now,
Trying to comfort me?

Who's there to save the hero
When she's alone and she's crying
She's tired of being a soldier
She's slowly dying

My heart is freezing over
My feelings are going numb
My head is pounding from the tears
Beating like a drum

The world starts to spin
There's nothing I can do
It's because I miss what we used to be
It's because I miss you

I'm sat in my room
And cold to the core
Thinking about what you said
When we were happy. Before.
