Before Long Poem by bob barci

Before Long

There was a time when
I’d cry myself to sleep.
Nothing’ much else to do.
There was a time when
I’d spend my time alone.
Lonely heart just aching to be found.
I tried to hide the forgotten me
by filling up my time
by running here, there, and everywhere.
Time for anything and everything
except for the one thing I wanted and needed the most.
Then, without warning,
I had my first look at you.
I just didn’t know -
how was I to know
that before long
I’d fall in love with you?
Wanting nothing more
than to spend my time with you.
Now Dwight all these years behind us,
it’s hard to believe that there was a time
I was totally alone.
How did I survive that time without you?
Little did I know that before long
I’d have you to fill me up.
Before long,
find living without you difficult.
Little did I know that before long
I’d want us to spend our time - together.
