Belonging... Poem by Leslie Xavier

Belonging...

The halo on the north wall,
from white to harvest gold.
No more fears, I know I'm loved;
morning again, home, my home.

The neighbour sings, the choir joins;
from love songs to fisherman chants.
No depressed cries, those voices are dear;
another day, this hamlet I belong.

Steamy concoct and a bowl,
the 'hippo-owl' has woken up.
No regrets for being here, a new day;
that loving womb, she feeds me still.

A devil's contract will end my dream, so soon,
forced flight from my honey and dew;
to the depths of news and hate,
hunger, and the mad rush for love.
