Beloved Father Poem by Erika Wingo

Beloved Father

Rating: 5.0

If only I could bring you back
It was much too hard to see you go
So many thoughts are running
through my head
All of the things I should have
told you
Everything I wish I'd said

You were suddenly
A shadow of yourself
An exhausted body,
A weary mind
A candle without a flame
A star that lost its shine
Your soul was ready
to be set free
You were gone before
the next sunrise

Although I long to hear your voice
Or to touch, once more,
your face
I find solace knowing you
have been renewed
In the loving arms of
God's embrace
Give Mom a kiss for me,
She's been saving you a place

You have moved on
from this life,
Left this world behind
I will hold sacred every
memory
It was an honor to be your son,
Beloved Father of mine
