Beneath The Bridge Poem by Thomas R. Ruffin

Beneath The Bridge

Rating: 4.5

as frozen ground is warmed
by a punctual sun
as earth mist hazily rises
skyward
as feathered creatures call
for the morning to come
and... as her futile search continues
for remnants of my dark and distant heart
as these things occur... I remain
beneath the bridge
where I cannot be discovered
where I cannot be uncovered
where I will not be recovered
yet she maintains her lonely vigil
while those without hope have long since returned
... she sleeps not one moment
... she dreams no dream
... she smiles no smile
and she will draw further no breath
though I remain
beneath the bridge
