What will they say about your children
After they’ve gotten onto the bus in the middle of
A sad rainstorm,
And you’ve driven off to sleep in some other bed
Than your husbands,
When the dogs are crying over the cats they cannot
Steal,
And the cats are mewing beneath the clocks
For the boys to come and step down the hidden
Corridors and down to the sea where
Some other maiden is waiting:
Some other maiden, as wonderful as the sea
Of a broken heart:
A woman who is not their mother- and she is not
You: they must take an airplane to reach her:
They must go over so many canals,
But eventually they will find her-
They will find her,
But then, they wonder, what they will do.
