Beside Her Poem by jess schwarcz

Beside Her

She drifts in and out
Of a life she doesn’t want to live
Someone holds her hand
Someone stands there beside her

Rushed through the ER
Her life was dangling on a frayed thread
But one was there to care
As he watched over her
Like a broken angel fell

She was sedated
And tubes helped pump her stomach

Was there, was there time
Was there time to save her life?
And all along he was there.
Standing beside her... with tears in his eyes.

Thinking of all the stuff he’s done wrong.
Wishin’ how he could have made it all up.
How could he survive if he lost her?
How could he survive if he lost her?

As she drifted in and out
All she could see was the doctors over head.
But she felt him holding her.
And she knew it would be all right.

Was there was there time
Was there time to save her life?
And all along he was there.
Standing beside her... with tears in his eyes.

Nor pain nor afraid
Did she feel that last day?
Nor sad nor mad
Did she feel that last day?
Nor lost nor alone
Did she feel that last day?
But love by the one she left behind
To suffer through the pain

And all along he was there.
Standing beside her… with tears in his eyes.
