I Called You A Friend Poem by jess schwarcz

I Called You A Friend

Rating: 5.0

-to alice philbrick-

I called you a friend,
But not again I will call
For your love, help, or loyalty.
I've found you have none left inside.

I let you crack the coconut,
The hard shell of my life.
The insides I reveal only to few,
My mistake was letting you in.
You fooled me with your false hope.
The past memories good and bad,
I let you on to hold to yourself
To not ever throw away.
Yet it’s just what you did.
All along it was about you,
Never was it about us.

You came crying on my shoulder,
Thought the world would shatter,
But in the end, grandma just moved in.
The day you broke the news,
You were still in love with your ex,
I stood there, listened and said what I could.
I made a note, hard as it was,
I never mentioned his name again.
My true self to you I revealed,
Though you didn’t even read it,
You didn’t even take time to glance my way.

You slunk away with you catty moves,
Behind my back you held things,
You betrayed what I thought,
Was a good friend.
I swallowed the pain, saying inside
You were just having a bad day.
I soon can to find,
Your bad days were your every days.

You pulled me in like a fish on a line,
Took your knife and branded you initials
On my back, tossing me away
With you sour pity laugh.

Right here, right now
I’m walking away from it all.
A friend is what I called you,
But never again will I call.
